What does your handwriting say about you?
Graphology, the practice of reading personality from handwriting, looks at a handful of features. Here is what it claims for each one, and which of them this quiz uses.
helloForwardhelloUpright
Slant
Letters that lean to the right are said to belong to an expressive, outgoing person who is already thinking about what comes next. Upright writing is read as composure and self-control; a backward lean as reserve.
In this quiz: the Lean trait, forward or upright.
wowLargewowSmall
Size
Large writing is linked with people who like room and attention; small writing with focus, concentration and an eye for detail.
In this quiz: part of the Spread trait, roomy or compact.
see youRoomysee youTight
Spacing
Wide gaps between letters and words are said to show someone who needs freedom and space; tight spacing someone who likes closeness and company.
In this quiz: the other half of Spread.
maybeRoundmaybePointed
Letter shapes
Rounded letters are read as warmth and a wish to get along; sharp, angular letters as drive, quick decisions and an analytical mind.
In this quiz: the Shape trait, round or pointed.

Joined or printed
Connected cursive is said to show thinking that links one idea to the next; separate printed letters independence and intuition.
In this quiz: the Flow trait, joined-up or print.
see you soonHeavy, risingsee you soonLight, falling
Pressure and baseline
Heavy pressure is read as energy, light pressure as sensitivity; a line that climbs across the page as optimism, a falling one as fatigue.
Not in this quiz: a font has no pressure and sits on a straight line.
Is handwriting analysis real?
Not in any way the evidence supports. Graphology is entertainment, not science. A 1989 meta-analysis by Neter and Ben-Shakhar pooled 17 personnel-selection studies: graphologists predicted job performance no better than untrained people reading the same samples, and close to chance when the content of the writing gave nothing away.
So this quiz does not pretend to analyse your writing. It reads something simpler: which handwriting styles you like. Treat your type as a conversation starter, not a diagnosis, and never use handwriting to judge anyone, least of all a job applicant.
How the handwriting personality quiz works
Ten taps, four traits, one type and one font.
1
Pick the one you like
Ten pairs, each the same words in two real handwriting fonts. The content changes every time: a greeting, a quick text, a sign-off, a signature and more. Go with your first instinct.
2
Four traits are scored
Each pair differs in two of four traits: joined or print, forward or upright, round or pointed, roomy or compact. Every trait comes up five times, so each one is scored from 0 to 5.
3
Meet your type and font
Lean, shape and spread decide which of the eight types you are, and flow adds a joined-up or print line. Your soulmate font is the one closest to your picks on all four traits.
The 8 handwriting personality types
Your lean, shape and spread decide which of these you are. Each name is written in the font that sits at the heart of the type.

What is a handwriting personality test?
A handwriting personality test claims to read character from the way someone writes: slant, size, spacing and the shape of the letters. This one is a one-minute quiz for fun. You choose between ten pairs of real handwriting styles, and your picks are scored on four traits to give one of eight personality types and a soulmate font.
Does this test analyse my own handwriting?
No. No photo or sample of your handwriting is taken. The quiz reads your taste: which of two handwriting styles you like more, ten times over. That keeps it quick and private, and honest about what it can do.
Is handwriting analysis scientifically valid?
There is no good evidence for it. A 1989 meta-analysis by Neter and Ben-Shakhar pooled 17 personnel-selection studies and found graphologists no better than untrained readers at predicting job performance, and close to chance when the content of the writing gave nothing away. Enjoy your result as a bit of fun, not as advice, and never use handwriting analysis to make decisions about people.
What does slanted handwriting say about you?
Graphology reads a right slant as expressive, sociable and focused on what comes next, and upright writing as composed and independent. In this quiz, preferring slanted styles moves you toward the Forward end of the Lean trait.
What does small or narrow handwriting mean?
In graphology, small, tightly spaced writing is linked with focus and attention to detail, and large, roomy writing with an outgoing, big-picture nature. Here that is the Spread trait: compact or roomy.
What do round or pointed letters mean?
Rounded letters are traditionally read as warmth and a wish to get along, and sharp, angular letters as drive, quick decisions and an analytical mind. That is the Shape trait in this quiz.
Joined-up or print: what does it say?
Connected cursive is said to show logical thinking that links one idea to the next, and separate printed letters independence and intuition. In this quiz it adds a Joined-up or Print line to your type.
What is a soulmate font?
It is the font, out of the ten in the quiz, whose style sits closest to your picks on all four traits. It is not simply the one you chose most often. One tap opens it in Text to Handwriting, where you can write a whole page in it.
Can I compare my result with a friend?
Yes. Share your result link. A friend who opens it can take the test, and when they finish they see their result next to yours, trait by trait.
Is it free and private?
Free, with no sign-up and no limit. Your ten picks are encoded in the result link: opening it sends that code to TextCard so the page can show your result, and anyone who has the link can see it. This browser remembers your latest result so it can compare you with a friend. To improve the quiz we also count anonymous events, such as which font was picked for each question and which type was the result; these hold no name or account. The share image is drawn on your device.
